twist theme

The twist theme is available for download. I am not aware of any issues, but let me know they are found and I will address them. The theme is a page that floats in the center of the screen. It has custom icons for the menu folders.

Thanks for the upload, but there's just one small problem — the twist.css file seems to have been left behind. wink

When you upload it (by itself and I'll re-zip it, or in a new zip), I'll move twist.zip to a download directory and install it here. Looking forward to it.

Thanks. I made a new gallery and put the Twist files in it, and added the theme to the theme.tw.o styles, Themes page and so on.

I assume the Twist theme is meant to have the Site Identity feature turned on. I didn't see anything about putting a site title at the page top otherwise. For this site, as described on the Twist wiki page, I added the conditional statement that all themes here get to limit Site Identity to the Site Identity demo page, and I also put an alternative line of text for the site name on other pages.

I changed the PHP Layers menu id number in the template to display a smaller menu that would fit better horizontally. Other parts of Site Identity at this site are basically one-size-fits-all and don't necessarily fit any particular theme very well without some template or SI code modification.

When can we see this in action?

How fast can you click "Twist" in the Theme-o-Rama New Themes dropdown list? wink Also see the Twist wiki page and switch to that theme and go to the Site Identity demo page to see how the menus actually look and work with Twist. The files are available for download, and Gary (gg) is updating where quirks are noticed.

I uploaded a newer version that addresses 3 areas:

  1. Some center columns are too wide and distort the page. I think I updated all (except articles->admin_topics, which just has too much content to fit nicely). Now all of the pages should properly size the columns.
  2. Added error.tpl so error pages format correctly.
  3. Changed menuid=43 to the top bar horizontal menu. That shows the real purpose of the tabbed look.

Please let me know of other issues that you find with this theme.

First of all - this theme is great. I am building a site for a customer and the marketing people love the theme. This theme makes them think of aurora borealis.

Problem: When the right hand column is removed article text automatically becomes too wide.
Fix: Check article width. Remove width reference and things work alright.

Idea: Use different colors and different bitmap. Sand? Snow? Could easily be done by using gimp I guess.

Big thankyou!

It is definitely the case that I have not tested this without the right column. The widths could be off. Are your changes compatible for both with and without right column? Can you send me your updates so I can integrate into the next release.

Thanks

I've been working on putting together a site with twist as well. The theme looks really mainstream and quite polished. I like it a lot.

One thing I've noticed and wonder if there is an easy solution, ordered lists in articles and wikis (perhaps other places to) do not appear in a numbered listing. They look like bulleted unordered lists.

Can something be changed to get the numbers back out in front?

-trewdy

btw - thanks for the tip on getting rid of article width to keep the article body from running into the right column. Worked like a charm. I also removed width from articleheading to keep it in bounds after adding some left padding to the center column.

To get the numbers back, edit styles/twist.css and remove the

LIST-STYLE-IMAGE: url(twist/bullet.gif);

Then you will get the numbers and default bullets back.

Thanks, I will fix this in the next release.

Please forgive me in advance as I'm sure this is just something stupid that I'm doing wrong: I have installed the twist theme, but I cannot figure out how to get the horizontal menu working like it does on this site. I can get the menu up there, but the text color is white and unreadable and there is no border around it like there is here. Any help would be greatly appriciated, so thanks in advance.

Can you give me the site location so I can look at it. Since you see a menu, most of the typical issues are correct (you have a menuid=43, you have enabled phplayersmenu, you have enabled site menu, you have enabled site menu bar)

The styles/twist.css file drives all of the visual presentation of the menu. Did you change it?

Hi Gary:

First of all, I join the group congratulating your lovely work! I'm using it for a new site I've ben requested (I guess they'll like a lot, as I do already) biggrin

Second, I have to inform that I hit some kind of buggy behavior with the horizontal phplayer menu when using your twist.css theme, but every thing behaves all right as expeceted when I use the same menu 43 with tikineat.css style.

I've filled a bug report about it.
http://dev.tikiwiki.org/tiki-view_tracker_item.php?itemId=1044

Please, consider using the bug tracker at http://dev.tikiwiki.org/tracker5 to submit any news about it, and close the bug if you or anybody knows how to solve it...

Cheers, and keep up the good work! wink

Hi Gary,

I realised today that after login validation url is clicked from the e-mail message, the page was not properly composed (See screenshot).

I guess that a twist-customized information.tpl (attached, also) file needs to be added to the theme style, as it was done with error.tpl.

Hope this helps..., and thanks again for you nice theme. :-)

I don't know why forum attachment uploading isn't working right now. But you can use this Etc file gallery to upload the template file or anything else. Any registered user can upload and download files from the Etc gallery. Sorry for the trouble.
